What is Space Clearing?

The desire to feel comfortable in our surroundings is as old as our human existence.  The need to make our spaces more functional or to decorate them so they look like a more authentic expression of who we are comes from a natural desire to feel good and to belong.

There are practices across every culture that incorporate both practical and energetic tools to create environments that resonate with those that dwell in the space.  Feng Shui, Vastu and Hoodoo are a few more well known traditions.  The art of placement looks at the location of objects within the space, their orientation, material, color and the effect on the environment.

Each tradition has their own set of tools but the cornerstone of these practices is to uplift the existing energy to support the well being of the people living and working in the environment.

So when does someone need a space clearing?  Many times, a space just doesn’t feel right, even when it’s new.  It can be an elusive thing…

Death, divorce, loss of a job, depression and illness can create a sustained lower vibration that gets stuck in the atmosphere.  Broken and outdated furniture and fixtures can also make us want to shake up the energy of our homes by reorganizing, redecorating or remodeling.  Changing these energy patterns can give us a lift out of the lethargy of procrastination, motivating us to find a new harmony.

It is a common urge to want to clean a new home or apartment before we move in, even if it has already been cleaned by the previous occupants.  When we wipe down the cabinets, sweep the floors and clean the windows, we are energetically claiming the space for ourselves.  It is as though we put our signature onto the living materials that make our home.  Yet, there is more to our homes than the materials of ‘brick and mortar’.  There is the atmosphere that surrounds us physically and the unseen energy that we move through and dwell within.

One year ago, my community was hit with a major hurricane.  The impact of the storm created wind damage and flooding that ravaged our area, destroying homes and affecting the natural world around us.  The chaotic energy of the collective in several counties was palpable, feeling heavy and depressing.  People fought with insurance companies, scrambled to obtain contractors, and some even sold their properties. While restoration is still underway and may take years to complete, the energy of the land and the people living here still feels like we have post traumatic stress disorder.   Acceptance, compassion and patience is required to take care of our properties and bring back a sense of wholeness to our community.

Stabilizing the energy of a property and bringing back a sense of peace to the environment can be achieved by using the energetic tools of space clearing.  Although I have worked on over 400 properties, I have never seen one that looked alike. Each place is unique and has its own story and every person has their own goals for what they need.  I combine several modalities to create a unique experience to uplift and support the environment with a thoughtful approach that honors the individual.

To see examples of how energetic technologies work read my Journal: The House on a Crystal Plate and The House that looked like a Hurricane.
